Rules and Guidelines for the Global Photography Project


Overview

Celebrate the birthday of photography on August 19th, 2024, by participating in a global photography project. Capture a photograph on that day and submit it to be considered for inclusion in a book and online gallery. A Finnish Photographer, Peter Forsgård, organizes the project.


Who Can Participate?

Open to Everyone: All ages and experience levels are welcome.

No Gear Restrictions: Use any camera, including also mobile phones. Professional and amateur photographers alike are encouraged to join.


What to Photograph?

Anything and Everything: Subjects can vary widely, including but not limited to people, landscapes, animals, and more.

Emotional Range: Capture beauty, decay, happiness, sadness, sunrise, sunset, daylight, and night. Show the full cycle of life.


Submission Requirements

Date: The photograph must be taken on August 19th, 2024.

Metadata: Ensure the image metadata includes the correct date.

Authenticity: No AI-generated images. Adding or removing elements with tools like Generative Fill is prohibited. Basic editing and cropping are allowed, but the image should remain a true document.

Legality and Appropriateness: No nudity or improper content. The content must be legal in your country.

Photographer: The submitter must photograph the image and have full copyright. The responsibility is on the submitter.

Model release:

If your photograph includes recognizable individuals, please ensure you obtain a signed model release from each person depicted. This release permits their image to be used in the project and its associated publications, including the book, website, and any promotional materials. By submitting your photograph, you confirm that you have secured the necessary releases for all identifiable individuals in the image. This helps us respect privacy and comply with legal requirements. You can download the model release from here.

File naming:

Please put your name in the file name like this: Lastname_Firstname.

Image file requirements:

.jpg files on, and the maximum file size is 10MB. Resultion should be as high as possible so that the print quality will as good as possible.


How to Participate?

1. Register: Visit the project website and register your interest. Registration is required for receiving project updates.

2. Submit Your Image: You'll receive a link to the submission form after registration.

3. Email Privacy: Your email will be used exclusively for project-related information and will not be shared or used for spam.


Selection and Usage

Image Selection: The best images will be included in a book and an online gallery. Due to volume, not all submissions may be included.

Decision Making: Peter Forsgård will decide which images are included in the book, gallery, and for marketing purposes. Peter Forsgård has the final word, and he does not have to justify the reasons. Future iterations may involve a larger selection panel.

Copyright: Photographers retain full copyright. By submitting, you grant permission for your images to be used in the book, on the project website, in a live stream, and for marketing purposes. Credit will be given whenever your photo is used.


About the Book

Publication: Selected images will be compiled into a book, likely available on Blurb.

Charity: The possible book's profits will be donated to a good cause, which will be decided before August 19th, 2024. Transparency about costs and profits will be maintained.

Coverage: Some funds will be used to cover project expenses. Participants will receive detailed information on costs. The book will be available online for anyone to purchase. As there is no participation fee for this project, we cannot provide participants free copies of the book.


Additional Opportunities

Merchandise: Project-themed merchandise will be available to help cover expenses.

Live Stream: A live stream showcasing some submitted photos will be conducted.

Dispute Resolution

In the event of any disputes or disagreements, they will be resolved in a Finnish court under the jurisdiction of the Finnish legal system. The project adheres to all applicable laws and regulations of Finland.
