The Beauty of an Ordinary Day
Many people only use their cameras for special moments, like a nice sunset or a big holiday. But I always return to the simple photos. I like quiet pictures, like a man reading on a bus, a mother cleaning her child’s face, or someone waiting at a traffic light. These are just normal people, living normal days, when nothing special is happening.
That's the kind of picture I'm asking you to make.
We see everyday life so much that we stop paying attention to it. But if you take a photo of it and really look, it can feel different. A tired face on a train can tell a story. The light on a kitchen table can look special. These things are not rare. They are always there, just waiting for us to see them. I think photography is about noticing these things.
So I want to ask you to take photos of people in their normal life. Do not ask them to pose or try to make the photo perfect. Just take pictures of real moments, like a person thinking on the bus, a shopkeeper talking, or a couple having a small argument. Try to find the small moments that happen every day. We usually do not notice them, but I think these moments are the most important.
You do not need a special camera or a special place. You just need to look around and pay attention to people. The camera on your phone is good enough.
If we all do this on the same day, something special happens. Your simple photo of a street will be next to someone else’s photo from another city. Together, these photos show what real life looks like on one day. Not just the best moments, but real people everywhere.
So do not look for something special. Slow down and watch the people near you. Wait for a small real moment and take the photo. An ordinary day can be the best subject. We just need to remember to see it.
